Renegade party member Alpha Sahid Kanu has been sternly warned by Secretary General , Osman Foday Yansaneh, that he will be kicked out of the All People’s Congress ( APC ) if he dares campaign for the Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP ) .
Yansaneh issued the warning to Alpha Khan in a tough speech he made this week about party matters and the crucial bye-elections this weekend at Constituency 073, Port Loko District.
Dr. Yansaneh said that though Alpha Khan has accepted a ministerial post from the ruling SLPP , he is still considered a member of the APC and nobody has driven him out of the party yet. However, if he dares to campaign for the SLPP in Koya this week, he will be kicked out of the APC, Ambassador Yansaneh threatened , because anti-party activities are forbidden in the new APC constitution that becomes legally operational today.
It remains to be seen if Alpha Khan will defy Yansaneh and the APC. His overtures to the SLPP were particularly welcomed by President Bio and he was accepted in the SLPP because Bio thought Alpha Khan will destroy the APC in Port Loko, one of the leading strongholds of the APC.
It is now left to be seen if Alpha Khan will try to please President Bio at the expense of his membership of the APC, which he joined in 2005 from the PDP Sorbeh to help campaign for former President Ernest Bai Koroma.
