Sierra Leone’ Ambassador to South Korea, His Excellency Omrie Golley has during the month of May, joined his African counterparts in Seoul, in commemorating Africa Unity Day, which, in the words of envoy Golley means “celebrating the success of African unity, African culture and celebrating the African personality”
As part of the celebrations to commemorate Africa Day in South Korea, His Excellency Omrie Golley joined his colleagues from the African continent resident in Seoul, on 27th May, in paying respects to the victims of the recent Sewol ferry disaster in the country which claimed hundreds of lives. This disaster has remained a national tragedy in the Southern Asian country.
In Seoul, African Ambassadors were also invited to a luncheon hosted by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI) where the keynote address was given by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Korea, Mr Hyun Byun-se.
In the evening there was a celebration of African music and culture which was held in the Centenary Hall of the Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul. All African Ambassadors turned up to the said event in their various traditional attire.
Ambassador Golley was appointed Envoy to South Korea early this year by His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma. He arrived on post on April 22nd. On the 25th of the same month, he was able to meet with the Dean of the African Group of Ambassador, Ambassador of Nigeria to Seoul, Desmond Awakor.
On the 24th April, he met with officials of Korea Development Bank and discussed Sierra Leone’s economic potentials and investment climate.
Ambassador Golley has, since his arrival, presented his Letter of Recall of his predecessor and his Letters of Credence to the Korean President, Her Excellency President Park Geun-hye, an event officially marking his start of diplomatic official duties as Sierra Leone’s Envoy to Seoul.
Since his arrival in Seoul as Sierra Leone’s Ambassador, His Excellency Omrie Golley has focused his work and attention in putting his country on the map of Korean life,granting interviews to various financial and other public relations outlets, including the well regarded daily Financial News Paper in Korea, as well as pursuing trustworthy investment opportunities for Sierra Leone
