Civil society group raises alarm over heartlessness and cruelty of Sierra Leone’s landlords

PUBLIC NOTICE**THE NATIVE CONSORTIUM EXPRESSES ITS DISSAPPROVAL OVER THE EXPLOITATION OF SOME UNPATROITIC LANDLORDS ASKING FOR NOT ONLY TWO YEARS BUT ALSO HIGH COSTS OF RENTS THEREBY EXACERBATING THE SUFFERINGS OF TENANTS AND FORCING THEM TO DWELL IN ENVIRONMENTALLY UNSAFE HABITATIONS.

*We wants to wish all Sierra Leoneans a blissful 2021. We pray that never again will planet earth face such a global trouble brought by Covid-19 in 2020.

We want to bring this to the attention of the Ministry of Lands Housing and Country Planning, its ministries and authorities in charge of housing to take a very serious note as the issue of rent in urban cities have created an excruciating pains and sufferings on the lives of Sierra Leoneans who cannot make it and have led to deaths and unspeakable sufferings.

The rents charged by landlords of late is not just astronomically high and past and present Governments have kept conspicuous silence on this high costs of rents. Authorities have failed to understand that this exploitation has a direct correlation with high cost of living which in effect have added vicious effects of poverty on the lives of ordinary citizens. As if this wicked act is not enough, some unscrupulous landlords asks for two (2) year rent.

The Native Consortium wants to draw this to the attention of Government that this cathedral of money making machine scheme which some Landlords thinks they should recoup their costs of building those houses in two years.

This madness must be checked to protect the poor citizens this 2021. We are calling on all well meaning Sierra Leoneans, our Honorable Members of Parliament, State and Non State Actors to join in this campaign to stop this madness. END………………………………….
