More Help For Sierra Leone: Goodwill Ambassador, Isatu Timbo- Nwokedi Meet Congresswoman, Maxine Waters.
On Thursday, October 30th 2014, Isatu Timbo-Nwokedi attended the campaign reception of Congresswoman, Maxine Waters who is running for re-election to represent the 43rd District in California. The reception was well attended by council members, community leaders, representatives of renowned International Non-Profit Organizations including; Rotary International, members of the Business Community in California, the local media and celebrity publicists.
As always, Ms.Timbo, the successful Business Woman and Philanthropist used this opportunity to make a case for more help in the fight against EBOLA in Sierra Leone and to other affected African Countries.
She highlighted that, EBOLA can only be eradicated when substantial financial, logistical and technical resources are directed to the affected countries ( Sierra Leone, Guinea and Liberia)- “the world need to deal with the EBOLA problem at the root cause and only then the rest of the world will feel safe.” Isatu Timbo went further to state that, ” EBOLA is killing our people in their thousands and the world is running out of time. So, the only way out is for the world to act now.” Isatu Timbo’s statement was very moving and guests at the event find it hard to contain their emotions on the seriousness of the EBOLA situation as presented by the Goodwill Ambassador. Interestingly, some of guests at the event had the opportunity for the first time to interact directly with people who hail from EBOLA affected countries.
In response to Ms. Timbo’s statement, the proactive and energetic Congresswoman, Maxine Waters acknowledged the seriousness of the EBOLA Crisis and made a commitment to add her voice to the call for urgent help. She further expressed her willingness to work with Isatu Timbo in developing strategies to help with the Housing Infrastructure problems in Sierra Leone. The Congresswoman emphasized her passion to help the homeless women and children who have lost loved ones and breed winners to the EBOLA epidemic.
During the networking session, members of the non- profit sector committed to hold further talks with Sierra Leone’s Goodwill Ambassador in mobilizing the much needed medical supplies to be shipped to Sierra Leone urgently so as to help with the deteriorating situation in the small West African State.
The Goodwill Ambassador was accompanied to this event by California based Sierra Leonean, Mamadu Juma Bah who is also an Entrepreneur, a Community Activist and a Media Practitioner. Mr. Bah in his short statement at the event reiterated the need for urgent help on the fight against EBOLA and also, encouraged the Business Community to explore the abundant Business Opportunities there is in Sierra Leone. He said ” As Sierra Leoneans, we are faced with a major challenge but, we are very hopeful that the EBOLA crisis will be over soon and we are therefore inviting California based Business to come and explore the endless business opportunities Sierra Leone has to offer in the areas of Agriculture, Energy, Mining, Technology, Tourism and more.” He went further to state that ” Sierra Leone is an emerging economy and it is an expansion opportunity for California Businesses because, Africa is the place where every Businesses would want to have a presence and now is the time to come onboard.”
Isatu Timbo was appointed as Sierra Leone’s Goodwill Ambassador by President Ernest Bai Koroma in recognition of her continued Humanitarian Work in Sierra Leone. Ms. Timbo has been a strong support of the Free Health Care Initiative in Sierra Leone and has been shipping containers of Medical Supplies in Sierra Leone for over a decade.
