The Minister of Sports, Ibrahim Nyelenkeh on Monday visited the Siaka Stevens Stadium to get first-hand report on the rehabilitation of the facility.
The work started almost two months ago after a successful official handing over from the Government of Sierra Leone to the Chinese Construction Company who are doing the 40- million-dollar rehabilitation of the country’s National Stadium on behalf of the Chinese Government.
The Minister and his entourage visited the Presidential Stands, the pitch, scoreboard, Volleyball and Basketball courts, among other facilities. The project will be completed in 2024.
The Minister was accompanied by the Director of Sports, Haroun Korgi, Ambassador of Sports, Junior Charlie Bio, Stadium Manager, Paul Dambulay, Deputy Stadium Manager, Alfred Tucker, Karate President, Victor Amara and James Fofanah.
Talking to the Minister after the visit, he said: “I am impressed with the way the work is going. After the completion, we would have a modernised stadium with the latest sporting facilities for our various sporting disciplines”
He added: “This is to tell you that our concern is about the development of Sports in all sectors. Remember, our youths love sports. Our President H.E JMB loves and cares for the young people. As a Minister I will always complement the effort of my President”.
