REV.  LEEROY WILFRED KABS-KANUThou art the God who workest wonders,
who hast manifested thy might among the peoples. (Psalms 77:14 RSV)

Sunday Sermon by the Rev. Wilfred Leeroy Kabs-Kanu

Oh, the greatness of the Lord, our God. How immeasurable. There is none living on earth who cannot testify to the goodness and greatness of God . If only you can be honest with yoursself, my friend, I am certain you can recall many times in your life when you have faced desperate times and you were at your wit’s end about how to get out of your predicament .Then God reached out to you with a hand of rescue and he delivered you >

This is the nature of the God that we serve. He is immeasurably good and great. Deuteronomy 10:17 – “For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe.”

Unlike man, God shows no partiality in his dealings with mankind. His goodness and greatness are enjoyed by all. When God realized that man had sinned in the Garden of Eden and he deserved a straight and direct sentence to the fires of Hell, God was so good and great that he immediately found a way to reconcile man back to Himself.  God immediately killed an animal and provided an animal skin to cover the nakedness of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21).He also shed the blood of the animal .   Hebrews 9:22 tells us  that “without the shedding of Blood, there is no forgiveness.”.God is so good and great , so caring and loving , he could not allow Adam and Eve to suffer from cold or other adverse weather . His goodness is seen in his merciful attitude even to  the man and woman he  had created and placed in a paradisic garden of abundance and joy but had wilfully decided to sin against him. Where can you ever find such goodness and greatness ?

God is so good that he performed wonders and rescued the Israelites from bondage and slavery in Egypt.

Exodus 6:6-7
“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.
Therefore , if you are in bondage today, believe in the almighty goodness and greatness of God. You may not be in bondage to man, but you may be in bondage still. You may be in bondage to sin, for instance. You have worrried and worried and worried because of that sin in your life. You can’t stop committing it. Whenever you return from committing that sin, you feel so disgruntled, so disappointed and yet you could not stop yourself from committing it tomorrow. It is because you are in bondage to sin. But whatever that sin is, I have good news for you today. Some people are in bondage to the sin of Adultery. They are married alright and they love their wives but they cannot help seeing that “Side-Squeeze ” in the corner , who is tearing their homes asunder. God has a plan for you, my friend, if you are in that sad situation.  .He is able to redeem you today if you can trust in him and give your life to JESUS CHRIST.
Actually, the presence of persistent sin may mean bondage to another being too–Satan. The devil has shackled some people so much in sin that they just cannot help themselves. They must cuss even when they do not mean to. They must go to bed with a woman though they do not really love her. It is bondage. 1 John 3:8-9, “If you keep on sinning, it shows that you belong to Satan … But the Son of God came to destroy these works of the devil. The person who has been born into God’s family does not make a practice of sinning, because now God’s life is in him” (L.B.).
Or you may be in bondage to fleshly  men. One of the worst things to happen to man is for him to be in bondage to other  men. When you are thus disposed, you do not think for yourself. Other men think for you. You have to do what they say or there will be unpleasant reprisals. It could be a cruel boss, a taskmaster who thinks he has got a slave.Or the person could be an abusive husband or wife .Oh how terrible the pains of men and women esconsed in the abusive trap of a wicked spouse. It is sad that in this day and age of civilization, there are still men who love to beat their wives. Conversely, there is now a new breed of women who are the abusers and who beat their husbands. The situation may be intolerable and you may think that the world has come to an end for you, but listen : God can redeem you from this bondage, set you free and give you a new beginning.
Psalm  12:5 : “For the oppression of the poor, for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, saith the LORD; I will set him in safety from him that puffeth at him “
The Sierra Leonean people are in bondage. They are in bondage to greedy, avaricious, coorupt and conscienceless leaders and politicians who are not only misruling them, but bleeding them dry by feasting on their resources while they live in poverty. The oppressed and suppressed Sierra Leonean people are praying all day and beseeching God to intervene and deliver them from their suffering. There are others who have completely given up and are now resigned to their fate.
But I want to let the Sierra Leonean people know this today : God’s time is coming in our nation. God is so good and so great that he will not allow the situation to go on forever. He is going to work wonders and manifest his might among our people. Judgement Day and deliverance are coming for the Sierra Leonean people. The politicians and their corrupt collaborators might think they have it all sewn up and the feast will last forever. But they are mistaken. God is watching everything that is going and in his good time he is going to reach out and redeem our people from the hands of the enemies of Mankind.
God is good and great, my brothers and sisters. Let us place our faith in him .He answers prayers. .He will redeem you today from whatever problem you have if you can only trust in him and pray to him for deliverance.
If you have not yet received Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior , do so today. Commit your life unto him
  1. Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
  2. …Christ died for the ungodly. (Romans 5:6)

May God bless you abundantly for reading this sermon.
