Sierra Leone is the first and only country where the head of state does not say a word or show some public reaction or disapproval at the violence, thuggery, bloodshed , killing and maiming of opponents by his Sierra Leone People’s Party supporters.
Coming to power with a dishonorable baggage of being a violent man with a Chequers’s history of blood- stained hands after once heading the country as the Chairman of a military junta in the 90s, Sierra Leoneans who did not vote for him did not expect anything better from Maada Bio.
But given the long road Sierra Leone had traveled from the end of the war 21 years ago to an era when people feel that sanity and good conscience have returned to the country, everybody expected that President Bio will be a decent human being this time round and he will show a revulsion for violence and bloodshed but how cruelly has President Bio proved them wrong.
Bio has never renounced violence. He has never condemned violence even when committed by his supporters. However bloody and macabre and regardless of the number of victims involved, Bio has never been moved by his conscience or moral duty as the President to condemn it or call for restraint or an end to violence.
What President is this whose conscience and moral duty to the nation are never disturbed by violence ? What President is this who never spoke a word when over one hundred prisoners and correction officers were murdered by his security forces at the Pademba Road Prisons ? What president is this who did not utter one word when his forces killed innocent youth and adult demonstrators at Tombo Village, Makeni, Lunsar , Mile 91, Tonko Limba and other places in Sierra Leone ?
