The Minister of Transport and Aviation, Vandi Chidi Minah Thursday, December 13, 2012 signed an agreement with the China Railway International Consortium worth USD190,000,000 (one hundred and ninety million United States dollars) for the construction of a brand new airport in the mainland of Mamamah in the outskirts of Freetown.
In his signing statement, Chidi Minah said the construction of the new Airport came as a result of a conscious effort b the government to rebuild Sierra Leone under President Ernest Koroma’s Agenda for Change on which the Agenda for Prosperity is built. He described the venture as an Aviation City of a modern International Airport, the biggest infrastructural development to be undertaken in the country. The Minister informed the gathering that the construction of the Airport International Airport at the end of President Koroma’s tenure of Office.
The Minister commended the Chinese Ambassador for his committed coordination for the success of the project. He called on line Ministries to collaborate in the process. He said his Ministry has made significant progress in the transportation and aviation sectors pointing at the rehabilitation and expansion of sea travelling is now comfortable with the construction of jetties in almost every wharf in the country.
The Minister of Lands , Mr. Allieu Pat-Sowe, said land has been provided for construction work and that his Ministry will do more for the speedy completion of the new airport. President Koroma’s Agenda for Change is moving to the Agenda for Prosperity .
