S/Leone Accountant General’s Dept. Staff – Newest Member of U S Association of Govt. Accountants

Mr. Paul M. Kamara, a Principal Accountant of Sierra Leone Accountant General’s department currently serving as Financial Attaché Embassy of Sierra Leone in the United States of America has been welcomed, as the “newest member of the United States Association of Government Accountants (AGA).” This disclosure was made one week ago, when Mr. Paul M. Kamara presented his meritorious certificate of membership to Ambassador Bockari Stevens and Deputy Chief of Mission I.S. Conteh.

According to a letter from AGA, Mr. Kamara was welcomed by AGA’s National President Mary E. Peterman, CGFM, and C.P.A on February 6th 2014, after becoming a member on January 1st 2014.

The Association of Government Accountants is a non – profit professional association that was founded on September 14 1950 by a group of federal government accountants.

In 1975, the Association was expanded to include State and local government finance professionals and begun administering “Certified Government Financial Manager Certification”: a professional post –nominal title, and a standard (education, experience and ethics requirements) by which government financial management professionals are measured.

According to one of its brochures, AGA is the leading professional organization promoting accountability in government and has over fifteen thousand (15,000) members in ninety six chapters throughout the United States.

The new entrant is a thirty six years experienced chattered accountant, with an impressive record – twenty two of which was spent in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Sierra Leone (AFRSL).

Mr. Paul M. Kamara is a fine and disciplined officer with ethical and moral values, which has earned him the respect and commendation from not only his colleagues but also from his authorities.

He voluntarily requested for a transfer of service to main stream Accountant General’s department in 2001 after successfully completed a presidential assignment on the verification of AFRSL Civilians and the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) Personnel where he served as Secretary.

He was ushered into the Accountant General’s Department after a well-attended interview conducted by a three man European Union Expatriate team including Joe Keely former Accountant General, Cline Kneele Deputy Accountant General and John Daramy officer in charge of administration, crucial period that saw the transformation of the Accountant General’s Department in to a very professional body.

Mr. Paul M Kamara is a fellow of institute of financial Accountants in the United Kingdom. He holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) (USL) and a Post Graduate Certificate in public sector financial Management from the University of Sierra Leone.

He also holds a BSc Hon. (Business Studies), certificate in Public Sector Accounting and Financial control, from the Institute of Public Administration and Management (IPAM). In addition, Mr. Kamara holds a certificate in principles and practice of Auditing, IPAM.
