The battle for electoral justice in Sierra Leone is an uphill battle for the APC without people’s power

By Kabs Kanu

My call for unity within the APC constitutes a timely reminder to our comrades that we need to steady and strategically realign the ship for the battles ahead but such calls cannot and will not negate the dire and preeminent and predominant cries for electoral justice for the 2023 presidential elections stolen from the party by the depraved Maada Bio and SLPP criminals.

I have poured out volumes and buckets of ink on this matter of electoral justice and the articles are embedded and archived in my newspaper and in various forums on social media for future reference.

Whenever I see Maada Bio showboating around the country and the world criminally as the President of Sierra Leone that he is not , I get insanely angry and perturbed at his impunity and reckless defiance of all civilized norms of conscience and morality. How a dwarfish thief can continue to swag in the giant’s robes of the presidency that he stole beats everybody’s moral conscience and the anger that cries within me is that he must not be allowed to get away with it because the dangerous precedent this elections thief is setting will definitely come back to haunt our nation, generations yet unborn and even the SLPP and its Southeastern domain. To believe that somebody from the APC side will not revenge one day and do the same thing is to turn blind eyes to the torturous historical paths our nation has trodden in its chequered political annals.

Since it started ruling in 1951 , the SLPP had consistently set bad precedents but there is none that did not come back to haunt them. So, to think that Bio will thumb his nose at us with the impudence he is presently doing and get away with it without reprisals one day for his party and people is the height of naivety and ignorance of the lessons of the history of Sierra Leone.

However, unlike others who believe that electoral justice in Sierra Leone will come from the U.S, ECOWAS and the international community, I stand by my opinion that only the people of Sierra Leone can now tilt the onslaught back to APC’s favor after the mess our own leaders too have made of the Tripartite Committee.

The fact must never be afraid to be said that if the Tripartite Committee ever ends up to fail to provide the dividends we all hoped for ,some of the blames lie squarely around our leaders’ necks. They should have realized from Day one that the Tripartite was a mayhem of deception criminally crafted to keep Maada Bio illegally at State House. Why, with all their learning , our leaders abandoned their boycott of governance and trusted Bio and America enough to think negotiating with the devil will cut it beats my imagination.

The boycott was the best option. It was working well and it had thrown Bio into the ropes. His government was in total disarray.

If the APC MPs and Mayors had remained steadfast with that boycott of Parliament and the councils and our party leaders had also remained obdurate to support Samura Kamara and fight the SLPP to get back what Bio stole from us, on a day like today, Bio would not have been criminally riding high and seemingly enjoying the international goodwill we seem to be seeing, though that too is deceptive.

If Maada Bio survived to this day, APC contributed immensely to making it happen. APC leaders connived among themselves to betray the supreme interests of the party and did not provide the needed impetus and help to ensure that Dr. Samura Kamara laid hold on the victory he deserved.

Samura Kamara is a man spurned and betrayed by his own party and this is a shame. I pity him a lot for that. He did not deserve such a betrayal.

Dr. Samura Kamara himself did not however fight a good fight himself, out of over- confidence, inexperience with SLPP’s history of deception or being too full of the milk of human kindness. How could he have publicly contended that politics is not a life and death affair ? When your opponent is called Maada Bio ? Politics is for tough men who take tough decisions and bear the consequences. He should not have trusted Maada Bio and the U.S and he should have known that the Tripartite was a calculated scam. He should not have even signed the Tripartite report when he knew that a rerun of the elections had been criminally left out of the 80 recommendations. Tell friend true nor go pwell friendship. Samura is my man but he should have stood like a man when it mattered most. He did not and that was disappointing. He had the people’s backing but failed to leverage his advantage. He trusted in the counsel of political sissies who condemned even demonstrations against Bio.

As things stand now, if Dr. Samura Kamara really wants to continue fighting and make it a winsome battle, he must go back and get people’s power behind him. The grassroots and the people love him and believe in his cause. The combined forces of the people of Sierra Leone and we in the diaspora are the only hope that will successfully reverse the boldfaced, daylight robbery in Sierra Leone by Maada Bio. Depending on America, ECOWAS and international community, who have all failed us, is another blind rampage in another labyrinth of deception that will only bring more regrets at the end.

Samura Kamara must go back to the people whose votes were stolen by Maada Bio and who are also seething with anger that Bio pulled off a criminal masterclass and is now showboating with it , without any pangs of guilty conscience. For Samura to believe that he will fight Maada Bio kindly within the fringes of feigned civility and fake peace and go it alone , without the weight of people’s power , and win, is another deception. Only people’s power will turn Dr. Samura Kamara from a vain whiner and complainer ( As some now perceive him) to a Spartacus seizing back the spoils stolen from him.
