TRUMP-etting reality : God uses the despised things of the world to confound ‘the wise’ : Has he just done that in America ? Time will tell

BY KABS KANU :

“But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;” ( 1 CORINTHIANS 1 : 27 )

I am not supporting any of the presidential candidates. I am supposed to be neutral and I have been doing that. As a diplomat, it does not matter to me who won.

However , some  of my people are so obsessed with Hilary Clinton and so hurt that she lost that they are brooding and lamenting so  much and it may not be good for them. Therefore as a minister of the gospel, I have been writing a series of articles to comfort them and to encourage them to move on.

I agree with them that when your candidate does not win, it often hurts to the bottom of the heart. I acknowledge their feelings , but what can you do ? You cannot go on crying over spilt milk. At some point in time, you have to move on, especially when you cannot change things. Mr. Trump is now the President . Like it or not, he is the one that God has allowed to win and when the people speak with an overwhelming voice as they have done , you cannot do anything about it. Mrs. Clinton fought a great battle and could have won it, but the outcome she expected did not turn out to happen.

I respect her very highly for speedily conceding the moment she knew that it was hopeless continuing. She did not hesitate one moment to concede. Instead of continuing fighting purposelessly and in the process destabilize the country further, she immediately accepted defeat and called Trump. She did not try to blame anybody . If we Africans can learn from this, most of our problems are over. If it had been us, we would have used the closeness of the elections fight and the shocking  result to reject the result and create chaos in our country. When you are wrong, admit it. When you are clearly defeated , have the games man spirit and accept it and move on and hope for better luck next time. ALL WILL RUN, BUT ONLY ONE WINS THE PRICE. My respect for Mrs. Clinton has increased thousandfold. She is a great woman and she has demonstrated it to the whole world. The world needs the Mrs. Clintons in Africa.

Now our duty is to pray that Mr. Trump succeeds to become a good leader. Let us pray to God to touch his heart to have compassion for immigrants and other classes of people and nations. Let us pray to God to cool all the racist and political passions and intolerance in the country. We are all God’s children and we deserve to live together in peace.

Who knows ? God may have let him win for a purpose we do not know. Mind you , the BIBLE tells us that God uses “the foolish things ” of the world to confound the wise. Our notions of  grandeur about certain people  is antithetical to God’s thinking. God does not think as men do.  People we despise and cry down may be the very people behind God’s heart and his plans. God often uses the things we consider foolish to do wonderful things. This theme runs throughout the Bible. Didn’t he  use the Chief of sinners , Paul, to do the greatest work  done for him done by one man ? There were many goood and holy men , but  Paul , who was a bad man and who used to kill christians, was the man God chose to be his greatest evangelist on earth. He was on the way to kill more christians when Jesus Christ appeared to him and changed his life forever.

Nobody can understand God.  God looks at us differently, despite all our mistakes. This is a lesson that Sierra Leoneans as well as Americans must learn because we tend  to be very judgemental of other people , thinking that our opinions of them really matter. Actually, our opinions of people do not matter. What matters is what God thinks about them. Jesus Christ himself gave the indication that there will be surprises in Heaven. Many people we condemn will go to Heaven and many that men hail will find themselves in Hell. It is what is in a man’s heart that matters to God, not outward show.

Luke 16:15

“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.” The moral of this statement is clear.
Also, let us not forget. It is God who gives power. All power comes from God. There is no power except that given by God  :
“And he changeth the times and the seasons; He removeth kings, and setteth up kings; he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding. He revealeth the deep and secret things; he knoweth what is in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him.” ( Daniel 2: 20-22 ). So ,
God heard all the cries of the people but he allowed Trump to win. He had the power to prevent it, but he did not.

What if God  allowed Trump to win ? Nobody understands presently. Nobody understands God fully  . What if God has  a purpose for allowing Trump to win ? . He may be a bigot, racist, misogynist, verbal abuser of women, minorities and the handicapped , and God detests these traits but that does not  mean that God will not use him, if he wants. God used flawed men throughout the Bible to carry his message and plans. God’s ways are not our ways. This Trump saga throws up many lessons . On the political realm, his victory was a protest against the establishment which had promised the people manna from heaven but had  not  lived up to its promises. Every time a new President comes, it is with flowery promises , but they never deliver. Americans were tired of the system. They wanted change. Can Trump deliver it ?

 STUNNED AMERICANS LAST TUESDAY

The  Trump story has just started. It has not ended. We have not seen the end of it yet. The final decider will be what he does during the next four years while at the Oval Office .

The whole world waits with bated breath.
