Urgent Appeal for Security Intervention
We are urgently calling on the Central Police Division to intervene in a violent situation unfolding in the Horton Street and Frederick Street area of central Freetown.
Groups of young men are currently causing mayhem, pelting stones, smashing bottles, and wreaking havoc leaving residents trapped inside their homes in fear for their safety. The exact cause of this unrest is unclear, but it appears to have stemmed from clashes between rival factions, reportedly with political affiliations.
We kindly request the immediate deployment of security personnel to restore calm and protect lives and property.

UPDATE!!!
Uneasy Calm Returns to Central Freetown After Ojeh-Linked Tensions
An uneasy calm has returned to central Freetown following a brief outburst of unrest which prompted police intervention in the Big Obasai area of Central Freetown.
Eyewitnesses and community sources confirm that the incident was not politically motivated on a national scale, but rather stemmed from internal tensions within the traditional Ojeh Society.
A young men at the scene who is a member of the Ojeh Society told me that their actions were aimed at what he described as the “liberation of their society.”They accused Manley Spaine, a prominent member of the All People’s Congress (APC) and a senior figure in the Ojeh Society, of attempting to cling to power as ‘Agba’—a title that denotes the strategic and spiritual leader of the secret traditional group.
The Ojeh Society, an influential cultural institution in parts of Sierra Leone, is known for its ceremonial and spiritual role in local communities. The ‘Agba’ is a revered elder who provides leadership and guardianship over the society’s rituals, values and internal affairs.
Tensions reportedly flared when a faction within the society opposed Spaine’s continued leadership, claiming it was time for new leadership at Big Obasai. “We are not fighting for politics,”one of the young men said. “We are fighting for our culture, for our society. Manley Spaine should step down.”
While Spaine’s political affiliations have added a layer of public attention to the issue, community members insist that the dispute remains a traditional matter.
Police have since restored order in the area, but the situation remains tense.
