Former President Breaks Silence on State Security Breaches and Killing of Security Guard
With profound disappointment, the Office of H.E. Ernest Bai Koroma, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone from 2007-2018, strongly condemns the sickening and violent events that have unfolded in the capital, Freetown, since the early hours of this morning. The resurgence of insecurity within our beloved nation is deeply concerning.
Former President Koroma expressed his deep dismay at the grave breaches of state security and the killing of Corporal Eddie Conteh, a military guard assigned to him by the state, right inside his Goderich residence in Freetown.
According to him Corporal Eddie Conteh was reportedly shot at point-blank range, and his colleague, Warrant Officer John Swarray, was abducted to an unknown location.
Former President Koroma emphasized that any actions, events, or pronouncements that threaten to undermine the political and social stability of the state should have no place in a democracy.
While acknowledging the imperative to restore law and order, he urged for calm and called upon all stakeholders to continue on the path of peaceful dialogue in resolving differences. In this challenging time, unity and collective efforts are crucial for the well-being and stability of Sierra Leone.
