One of the impacts of the past 15 years has been the dislocat1on of people from their towns and villages into the cities. Any plan for development must connect with the nation as a whole, and also at the level of the common ctizen.
Your ideas about agriculture seem overly ambitious in an industrial sense. Large commercial farms are not as productive as small farms. A development policy should focus on the human scale, and on developing community and communities. Major highways let the wealthy and connected enjoy their cars, make things convenient for the wealthiest minority, and serve as the basis of attempts to stimulate industrial expansion.
In any event, unless you have a ready, willing and educated workforce, you are not going to have corporations coming to lease your rental properties located along the superhighway. In terms of priorites for development, how would you rank them? My first concern would be for the people. Focus on healthcare, public health, public sanitation: toilets, hand washing stations, showers, laundries, grey water disposal system, clean drinking water.Encourage people to re-populate the country. Support small farm agriculture and the development of marketing cooperatives. Get the high yield varieties of “Nerica” rice into the hands of farmers.Distribute drip irrigation equipment and supplies.
Put Sierra Leonean agriculture back to work by supporting the University system resources. Reduce the pressures on the people living in the cities by helping them relocate. Encourage the redevelopment of towns. I am suggesting that, as an alternative to the “top-down” model of infrastructure development, it would be more sustainable to promote a bottom-up” paradigm. Patrick, you are obviously a visionary master, and can see the grand design. I think that the bridge is a great idea. I’m not so sure of the need for eight lane highways.

30 billion dollars in six months? Who the hell is gonna provide that kind of funding, even if the country is swimming in petroleum and diamonds?
Patrick is not a visionary. He is on crack!

Dear Morlai:
Thank you for the input into the evolving discussions on SLID Proposal. Your points are well taken. The only thing we want to add is that we did look at the little things you mentioned; they are encompassed in the grand scheme of things as proposed. The key to all you have brought up and those in the proposal is REVENUE. When the $30 billion is obtained, you and those working on micro schemes will be engaged while the macro development schemes will simultaneously progress to create a balance. But you are absolutely right that we must not overlook the strategy you proposed.

My dear brother “FULL OF IT”, Patrick cannot bear the insult alone. It was a concerted effort that produced the proposal we are all discussing on the forum. We could have been stupid, like you are referring to us; but one thing is certain, we did not think we were the only people that could do it for our country. We had the time to think and to produce this document people( even non-Sierra Leoneans) are full of praise for. Going on the forum to dismiss it as bogus cannot be acceptable. If you think and decide to insult the producers, Pat cannot bear the bullet of insult alone; I will share it with him. But instead of posting an insult or a dismissal, take the other route by posting something which people can put side-by-side with that which has been already posted for all eyes to see. I also believe the authors ARE NOT FULL OF COW MANURE. We want to hear from people who can contribute something that can push Sierra Leone forward, not negativity.
Hoping to hear from you and to see that which we can all discuss. We MUST go forward as a country. Criticizing is good but shouldn’t be negative and unprogressive.

Man, to produce a document is one thing, to finance the project is another. Please be very specific where and how you intend to get the funding for this project. If you tell this forum your funding is coming from or expected to come from the GSL, then I must say again, it is you guys that are insulting me.
Yaya, you are full of it and the less I say to you is the better.
