πΈπ± 65 Years of Independenceβ¦ But Letβs Be Honest for a Second
Today, Sierra Leone turns 65.
Flags are up, music is playing, people are celebrating.
But let me ask you something, are we just celebrating⦠or are we thinking?
Independence was not just about removing colonial rule. It was supposed to be the beginning of real freedom, real progress, real control over our future.
So before we post βHappy Independenceβ and move on, here are 5 questions every Sierra Leonean should sit with today:
1. What have we actually achieved in 65 years?
Not emotions, not speeches, real results. What can we point to with pride?
2. Are we truly independent⦠or still dependent in different ways?
Economically, politically, even mentally. Who really controls our direction?
3. What has improved for the average citizen?
Think about jobs, healthcare, education, cost of living. Has life genuinely gotten better?
4. Where are we heading as a country?
Do we have a clear vision, or are we just reacting year after year?
5. What role are YOU playing in Sierra Leoneβs future?
Not just the government. Not just leaders. You. Me. All of us.
Independence should not only be a celebration.
It should be a moment of reflection, accountability, and honest conversation.
So Iβll ask you directly,
Are we celebrating progress⦠or just marking time?
Drop your thoughts below. Letβs talk πΈπ±
