WHEN THE HEADLINE OUTRAGES YOU MORE THAN THE ALLEGATIONS, WE HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM.
I find it absolutely bewildering that some of our supposedly respected and influential citizens of our beloved nation are more outraged by The Guardian calling Sierra Leone the “world’s first true narco state” than by the horrifying allegations contained in the investigation.
….People reportedly abducted and murdered.
….Police officers allegedly assassinated.
….A convicted international drug trafficker accused of compromising our security institutions, corrupting public officials, and operating with extraordinary protection.
People living in fear in our nation and scared to mention the name Jos Leijdekkers and his political connection.
We literally had this drug lord on video in the same church with the president and other high political officials and in another video giving a gift to the person charged with protecting the nation from people like him.
Yet now people seem very concerned with defending our country’s image than confronting what may be happening to our country.
They now have the balls and ovaries to challenge this headline, but lack both to challenge Jos Leijdekkers and the politicians selling our country to the highest bidder.
What I find most disturbing is watching fellow Sierra Leoneans, including people I have long respected and admired, dismiss an entire investigation because they take issue with its headline.
They are so consumed with what they call defending Sierra Leone’s image at the expense of confront the threats to her future.
