Capacity of civil servants key to government service delivery –President Koroma

The President made this statement during the presentation ceremony of the 2014 annual report of the Public Service Commission (PSC) at State House, Freetown.

Receiving the report, President Koroma pointed out that government will look at areas to capacitate the Public Service Commission, adding that as government is in the process of redefining the infrastructure of the nation, the commission will not be left out. He encouraged the PSC to remain focus and assured of government’s continued support to further enhance the capacity of the commission.

The president expressed optimism that hopefully by next week the country will start the countdown to 42 days incubation period stipulated by the World Health Organization (WHO). He furthered that even with Ebola, the commission is engaged in executing its functions as provided by its mandate. President Koroma also expressed satisfaction over the structural changes, processes and recruitment activities of the commission.

Presenting the report, the Chairman of the Public Service Commission of Sierra Leone Dr Max Ahmadu Sesay said the 2014 report is titled “The state of the public service in Sierra Leone”, saying that the report was a summary of the commission’s activities, programmes and challenges.

He added that the report also highlighted corporate restructuring of the institution, institutional and legislative reforms, the commission’s role in ensuring coordination and collaboration of institutions within the public service while stating their commitment to recruiting the best for the public service.

Dr Sesay appealed for a better and newer accommodation and also benefit from the infrastructural development of the country.
