Fatima Bio The Tigress They Thought Was a House Cat
By Gibril Bangura
Politics has a cruel way of teaching lessons that warnings could never teach. Today, it is astonishing to watch some of our Southeastern brothers and sisters within the SLPP publicly lamenting and expressing shock over developments they once celebrated and defended with unmatched enthusiasm.
Years ago, many were busy nurturing what they believed was a harmless house cat. Those who raised concerns were dismissed, ridiculed, and branded as enemies. But time has a way of exposing reality. The little kitten they proudly paraded has grown into a political tigress whose influence now appears to unsettle even some of her earliest admirers.
Back in 2016, I warned that blind loyalty and personality worship would eventually come at a cost. Those warnings were not only ignored but met with insults and hostility. Instead of critically examining the growing concentration of influence around Fatima Bio, many chose to elevate her status beyond normal political scrutiny. Titles, praises, and endless glorification became the order of the day as party loyalists competed to demonstrate their devotion.
What is particularly painful for many observers is that some went so far as to place political allegiance above community interests. They abandoned criticism, sidelined their own voices, and defended every controversy with unquestioning loyalty. Anyone who dared to raise concerns was treated as a political outcast.
Today, however, the political landscape has shifted. The same individuals who once defended every action now find themselves expressing disappointment, frustration, and regret. The cheers have become complaints. The applause has become lamentation.
But politics is often unforgiving. Regret arrives only after consequences have already taken root. The old saying remains true: “Had I known” is often the final confession of those who ignored warning signs when they mattered most.
The lesson is simple: political loyalty should never replace critical thinking. When leaders and their allies are elevated beyond accountability, the day inevitably comes when even their strongest supporters discover the cost of their silence.
