As part of our ongoing commitment to preserving dignity and protecting public health, the Freetown City Council (FCC) burial team on Monday, 27 October 2025, recovered six bodies from various locations across the city and ensured their respectful burial.

Although FCC does not hold the formal mandate for corpse collection, the Council has resumed this work in response to the urgent public health situation. Despite recent communication, the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs (MLGCA) has yet to clarify which authority is officially responsible for this task.

FCC continues to call on the Government to urgently investigate the alarming rise in deaths among young people, with 253 bodies collected since January. The Council extends sincere gratitude to its burial team for their tireless dedication and compassion in carrying out this challenging yet essential work.
