Gen. Ronnie Harleston to be buried today

Retired Brig. Gen . Ronnie Harlston , who left a legacy of gallantry and splendid military service to his nation, will be laid to rest in Freetown today.

Brig. Gen. Harleston passed away two weeks ago in Freetown after suffering a catastrophic stroke from which he never recovered.

He is being mourned as one of the finest officers of the Republic of Sierra Leone Military Forces. He fought alongside government troops against the rebel RUF during the 11- year Sierra Leone civil war.

Brig. Gen. Harleston also served as military Adviser for Sierra Leone at the United Nations. The Publisher of this newspaper, Wilfred Leeroy Kabs- Kanu, who was Minister Plenipotentiary for Sierra Leone at the UN during the same time , describes Brig. Gen. Harleston as a dedicated and hardworking military officer who helped to project Sierra Leone’s impressive diplomatic stature at the UN.

He is the third member of Staff of the Sierra Leone Mission to the UN to die during the past few years. The others are the former Head of Chancery, Mr. Alusine Sesay and the office manger , Mr. Ahmed Smart.

May their souls rest in perfect peace.
