I was looking at the alleged charges against former President Kabbah and Sierra Leone in the courts in Abuja. 146 counts!!!

It’s such a shame. The reason it’s a shame is because African heads of state have not learned to exit gracefully. They have to leave under a veil of disgrace. Why? Is power that seductive? It can’t be money alone. You can only drive one car or live in one house at a time. Is it the male ego that won’t allow them to relent? I know that I come into the discussion with a western perspective, but do they ever think about their legacy? One of the things the US presidents know is in store once they leave office is their presidential library or some similar structure.

One of the finest examples of this is the Carter Center in Atlanta. This is an incredicle place that helps to address issues such as peace and conflict resolution. Plus he spearheaded Habitat for Humanity which is now an international program addressing affordable housing issues around the world.

When the Tsunami hit Indonesia several years ago, the first Bush and Clinton went on a major fundraising campaign together for the sake of that cause; even though they would ordinarly oppose one another. They leave something to their people that will last even after they are no longer here. Maybe too much of the colonial mentality still lingers which has turned into self loathing. These people want to be rulers but they don’t want to provide for their people properly.

What is the pride in being the president of a country where you’re dead last or second to last in all international quality of life indicators? Who will think highly of you when they know the natural resources that lie within your borders, yet your people are in such poverty? Most of all, how do you sleep at night knowing you have betrayed the trust of millions of people. Not just your own, but those of the people of countries who gave in earnest expecting outcomes. As this administration looks at its first 100 days, part of the new minister orientation needs to be a mission statement. One that says never again will we have leaders who are not servants. Never again will we be last on the index. Never again will we betray the trust of our fellow countrymen.

Lastly, never again will we bring shame and disgrace to our country by being leaders who don’t have integrity. As I read the list of charges from the 146, I felt a mixture of sadness and gladness. Sad because of all that has happened, but glad that a new day has come and there is the possibility to move on and become a model state.

Did Alpha Wurie paid millions of leones to the APC ?
If this rumour is true I do not foresee Ernest taken any action against Alpha Wurie for any alleged embezzlement.

Alpha Wurie should be made to account for every penny he embezzled. The Uk should be asked for him to be extradited and surely that application will be granted. It is sad that many Sierra Leoneans struggle to pay fees for their family members while Alpha and his family take regular visits each year to the UK and they drive a brand new jeep with current registration number.

There is no way Alpha Wurie should have been able to purchase this property in the UK when he has not even worked in the UK. Minister’s salaries in Sierra Leone is not fat enough to enable Alpha to purchase this sort of property neither fat enough to purchase any other type of property in the UK. The newspapers in the UK should be approached and I can assure Ernest that they will give him the biggest publicity that will force the British Authorities to send him back to Sierra Leone.

He would not succeed in claiming political asylum because the Geneva Convetion would not protect him if he is wanted for a crime.

Ernest Koroma will be applauded if for once he could get this man to account for every penny he stole from the government. Why should he be allowed to live in paradise enjoying the stolen money when the masses are suffering?

I urge all Sierra Leoneans to take up this matter. We should all fight to get this man to be sent back to Sierra Leone. It is even rumoured that his son came with a scholarship to the UK. Mr President, should you fail to request for his extradition it would be seen as a confirmation that Alpha actually paid some money to the APC something some of us would not want to believe.

Mr Wurie is now in Freetown. He left the UK on the 24/09/2007 and I was onboard the same flight. My guess is he was pushed by the GB government to go back and not on his own. Relax guys the GB governement is in control and justice will prevail.

Although he is back in Sierra Leone, we should continue to put pressure on Ernest Koroma to act quickly before he relocates to Guinea just like he did during the war.

If I can get details of his registration number (Jeep) and the address of the property, I will put the newspapers after him
