NCP liquidates Daily Mail

Reliable sources close to the National Commission for Privatization (NCP) have revealed the conclusion of arrangements for the final liquidation of the defunct Daily Mail to a certain Mr. David Carew.

It can be recalled that the Daily Mail, formerly a government news paper, stopped operations for over five years now due to what has been described as poor management, and up until now the former workers of the establishment have not been paid their benefits or other entitlements.

With liquidation it means the relinquishing of government’s ownership to Mr. Carew, who is expected to settle the government’s accounts with the former workers or ensure that the government does so before it can take possession of the property.

This development places further pressure on several newspapers who had taken refuge in the building following their forced eviction from No. 1 Short Street not long ago by Fatmata Hassan, claiming that the building belonged to her.

Also marked for privatization are the SLPMB property at Wellington, the National Workshop in Cline Town and the Forest Industry Corporation in Kenema.

The official ceremony for these events will start on August 10, when the Daily Mail and SLPMB will be handed over to their new owners Mr. David Carew and Marcia Enterprise respectively.
