President Ernest Koroma Is Still The Man Of The People As Sierra Leone Heads For Crucial Elections

=By KABS KANU :
Amidst  all the din of  their salacious propaganda and orgy of lies and defamation against President Ernest Koroma and the  All People’s Congress (APC) Government and  their wishful thinking , supporters of the opposition Sierra Leone People’s Party ( SLPP )  are all jittery over one fact–Months into the crucial Presidential and Legislative Elections in November, President Ernest Bai Koroma remains the Man Of The People.

The President’s popularity and acceptability among the masses of the people of Sierra Leone remain astronomically high and wherever the President goes, surging crowds of excited Sierra Leoneans almost mob him as they come out to welcome him with all the love and enthusiasm the spirit of appreciation  can muster. The SLPP  has bought some foreign journalists and some  Sierra Leonean media men working for overseas media and they have been busy producing false, erroneous and sometimes very damaging and defamatory articles against the President and the government , but nothing these men have written has blunted the edge of  President Koroma’s popularity and his profile as The Man of The People.

Sierra Leoneans acknowledge the fact that their country still faces daunting socio-economic and political challenges, most of them due to the global economic downturn, but one thing they are sure of is that for now President Koroma is the answer to their development aspirations,  the President having already demonstrated to them what he is capable of achieving for the nation, if given the chance.

THOUGH A CHRISTIAN, PRESIDENT KOROMA IS LOVED EVEN BY MUSLIM SIERRA LEONEANS
Sierra Leone has advanced socio-economically and politically under President Koroma. The IMF forecasts a 50%growth in the economy this year. Agricultural and mining activities have taken off brilliantly all over the nation; road and infrastructural developments are going on everywhere and there is now electricity in the country unlike the era of the SLPP when the whole nation was in darkness. Sierra Leone’s image in the international community is excellent and the country’s development partners have great confidence in the President. It is no wonder that supporters of the SLPP  are fleeing their party in droves to join the APC.  The people of Sierra Leone have realized that President Koroma is the hope of the nation .

Despite opposition newspapers having a field day with allegations of corruption against some officials of the ruling government, most of them unsubstantiated , Sierra Leoneans still have confidence in President Ernest Koroma ‘s leadership and his commitment to end corruption in Sierra Leone. They have never heard of the President himself ever involved in corruption. They know that President Koroma is very committed to his pledge that there will be zero tolerance to corruption in Sierra Leone under his rule . Unlike the free-for-all situation under the SLPP, more government officials and private individuals have been punished by the Ernest Koroma government for corruption than ever done by any government in the history of Sierra Leone.

To win this year’s elections, President Koroma does not need to win everywhere. All he needs is to maintain his present momentum and sweep the Western Area, the Northern Province and Kono and he will be back at State House in grand style. But political strategists believe that President Koroma will receive vital votes in other parts of the country as well.
