Coup d'etat in Guinea: citizens of N’zérékoré welcome the departure of Alpha Condé

Reelected for a third term as head of the country, President Alpha Condé is said to have served only 8 months in his new term, following the coup d'état led by the man he mentored, Colonel Mamady Doumbouya.

The news broke the city of N’zérékoré yesterday Sunday. On Monday, several citizens opposed to the ousted regime were quick to express their joy at the governorate level and at the place where the handovers between the Governors and prefects were held.

In the process, the now strongmen of the city were applauded by the crowd chanting slogans "we are released, the dictator is gone". When questioned, Michel Kamano congratulated the army on its bravery. "I graduated, but since I finished I have been unemployed. Guineans were tired of this Alpha Condé dictatorship. But we call on the new authorities to honor the commitments they have made. Even so, I remain optimistic for the future, ”he said. Same opinion for Moussa Kourouma, who said: "It was the right moment because the people are tired of the mismanagement of this regime which sowed terror. Everyone was oppressed in his reign. We are released, I'm happy ”.

For his part, Maurice Koulemou remains skeptical about the commitments made by the new strongman of Conakry. “The military often does not keep promises once in power. My first wish was the departure of President Alpha Condé from power. But the doubt that I also have is the effectiveness of the commitments made. In any case, we support them in the direction of the recovery of the country as soon as possible ”, launches this other citizen.

In the town of N’zérékoré, disappointment can be read on the faces of power activists. On the other hand, among opposition activists, it is immense joy. And it should be remembered that the public services are functioning well this Monday even if a paralysis is noted. Amara Souza Soumaoro, correspondent for N’zérékoré
