IG Encourages Professionalism in The Police Force

The SLP on Friday 25th May 2018 promoted four recruits to the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) out of 1,300 who passed out from the Police Training School (PTS) Hastings.

The four officers are: Dahlia Ernestine Florence Drucilla Wellington (a Barrister at Law), Martine Egbenda (he holds a Bachelor in Engineering), Edward Conteh (he holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy) and Amadu Kamara (Bachelor in Engineering).

The ceremony was witnessed by prominent dignitaries including the first two gentlemen of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the First Lady, the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Internal Affairs, the Chief of Defence Staff and the National Security Coordinator.

Admonishing the recruits, the IGP cautioned them to be professional, fair, impartial, neutral and non-partisan in discharging their duties.

In his keynote address, H. E. the President, Rtd Brigadier Julius Maada Bio said that he felt very honoured to be part of the program and that his government is willing to transform the SLP beyond “a force for good and that it would be adequately resourced and financed”. He furthered that his government will ensure that the terms and conditions of service of the SLP reflect the task it performs.

He emphasized that police officers should always respect the human rights of the people and was quick to caution the recruits to be “respectful and professional” at all times.
