*WOMEN OF SIERRA LEONE PROUDLY CONGRATULATE OUR FIRST LADY FOR HER UNPRECEDENTED AND HISTORIC ACHIEVEMENTS*

Saturday 12th November 2022

The Women’s Forum, the National Women’sUmbrella Organization, consisting of all Women’s Groups Nationwide in Sierra Leone hereby extends warm congratulations to Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, First Lady of the Republic of Sierra Leone for the historic Resolution that she has successfully piloted on behalf of Sierra Leone at the United Nations Headquarters.

H.E. Dr. Fatima Maada Bio is well-noted as a leading Global advocate for the protection of Women and Children especially the Girl Child.

On Monday November 7th 2022, she added another milestone to her already formidable credentials when she convinced the United Nations General Assembly to pass the Resolution A/77/L.8 to create a brand new Day by the United Nations whereby November 18 will henceforth be recognized by all countries of the World as a day to mark efforts at preventing sexual exploitation, violence and abuse of children and for healing from such heinous crimes.

Women’s Forum is proud that at the urgings of Sierra Leone’s First Lady to the General Assembly, over 100 States from all around the World, including the Holy See at the Vatican, stood by the side of Sierra Leone to unanimously support the First Lady’s Call for “World Day for the prevention of and healing from Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Violence” to be marked on November 18th every year.

Women’s Forum of Sierra Leone is extremely proud and delighted at this historic achievement for our country as piloted by the Mother of our Nation. We note that whilst the United States of America has the credit for a sitting First Lady, Dr. Hillary Bill Clinton, to lead her country’s delegation to address a UN Global Meeting in September 1995, Sierra Leone now has the historic achievement of our First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio to now be the first ever sitting First Lady to address the United Nations General Assembly. Adding more feathers, First Lady Fatima did not only address but she convinced the World to pass our Resolution. Congratulations Madam First Lady!

We, the Women of Sierra Leone are very proud of our First Lady and we have today resolved to specially celebrate and honour H.E. First Lady Dr. Fatima Maada Bio immediately on her return to Sierra Leone. This will include awarding our First Lady at a Women’s Forum Prestigious Dinner slated for November 24th 2022.

Her Excellency Dr. Fatima Maada Bio has made the Women of Sierra Leone so proud and we stand in solidarity with her. We are so very much proud of our distinguished First Lady.
