FREETOWN, Sierra Leone, June 3, 2016// — Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Sheku Badara Bashiru Dumbuya, has been sworn in by the Chief Justice, Abdulai Charm, to act as President of Sierra Leone following the absence of both President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma and his Vice, Ambassador Dr Victor Bockarie Foh from the country on official visits to Senegal and Papua New Guinea respectively.
The Chief Justice administered the oath of office to the Speaker at a short ceremony at State House in accordance with Section 54 (6) of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone which reads; “Whenever the President and Vice-President are both for any reason unable to perform the functions of the President, the Speaker of Parliament shall perform those functions until the President or Vice-President is able to perform those functions, and shall take and subscribe the oath of office as set out in the Second Schedule before commencing to perform those functions.”
Present at the occasion were Chief Justice Hon. Abdulai Charm, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Hon. Chrenor Maju Bah, Majority Leader of the House, Hon. Ibrahim Rassin Bundu, the Secretary to the President, Mr Emmanuel Osho Coker, and the Clerk of Parliament.
