Rehabilitation work on Fourah Bay College has started. Theย dilapidated dorms and facilities of theย one-time Athens of West Africa are undergoing complete reconstruction. 
Additional infrastructural developments will also be made, COCORIOKOย learnt today.
The reconstruction and expansion of Sierra Leone’ s premierย university is being undertakenย through an agreement with the Arab Bank of Economic Development in Africa (BADEA).
COCORIOKOย has also learnt thatย US$36.65 million was procured for the project , which was provided by the following :ย OFID-US$13 million ;ย Saudi Fund-US$12 million; BADEA-US$8 million, andย the government of Sierra Leone US$3.65 million.
When the agreement was signed two years ago, the Principal of the college,ย Professor E.J.D. Thompson, called the projectย โa celebration of a renewal of education and the quest for excellence and progressโ. He also said thatย โit will create the physical environment that will enable quality learning whichย is in line with Pillar 3 of the Agenda for Prosperity” .
Professor S. Gbamanja, the Vice-Chancellor of the Universityย said that the reconstruction will give back to Fourah Bay College its lost glory.
