Ambassador Momoh and staff pay courtesy calls on President Koroma, Foreign Minister

Chargé d’Affaires, Sierra Leone Embassy in the People’s Republic of China, Madam Kumba Momoh, together with a cross section of staff of the Embassy on Monday, 23rd October, 2017, separately paid courtesy calls on His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma and the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Samura Kamara.

During the call on President Koroma in his office, Madam Momoh thanked him for the outstanding leadership he has provided the country so far since 2007, also congratulating him on his decision in appointing Dr. Samura Kamara as flag bearer for the governing party, together with Hon. Chernor Bah as his running mate.

The President’s appointment of Dr. Samura Kamara, she said, was demonstrative of the fact that the country comes first for him.

Madam Momoh also thanked the President for the leadership he effectively provided during the mudslide of August 14th, 2017.

She presented, on behalf of the Sierra Leonean Students in China, a donation of 1,500 dollars to the Government as part of their support to those affected by the mudslide of August.

Whilst, on behalf of the student, thanking the President and government for having increased their annual allowance from less than 800$ prior to 2007 to 1,800$ at present, Madam Momoh informed the President that students were also appealing for another increase.

Responding, His Excellency President Ernest Bai Koroma thanked the team for attending the just concluded APC National Delegates Conference.

The overall reaction to the appointment of the APC’s flag bearer and his running mate, the President said, clearly indicates it is a welcome decision.

President Koroma said, he felt fulfilled and was certain, that the governing APC will win the 2018 elections “with an increased majority in Parliament” and a one ballot victory, encouraging all to remain focus on winning.

The Party, he said, was now well positioned to continue winning elections even beyond 2018, to 2035 when we get to a middle income economy.

Dr. Samura Kamara, the President said, has been part of the policies and programmes he has been running and was well positioned to continue with his work.

China, the President said, has been very supportive of Sierra Leone’s development and that even though he may not be able to visit the country before he retires, he was sure of continuing with the relationship between the two countries even when he shall have retired.

He encouraged the Embassy staff to work assiduously in exploring the available opportunities China has got to offer in the areas of international development and diplomacy since they are today taking a center stage.

On the donation made by the students in China, President Koroma thanked them for such intervention. He promised to engage relevant ministries in looking at the appeal for an increase in their allowance.

Similar courtesy call was paid on the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Dr. Samura Wilson Kamara, who is also the flag bearer for the governing APC, for the 2018 Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Accompanying Madam Momoh were the Information Attaché, the Embassy’s First Secretary Robert Koroma and the Trade/Cultural Attaché, Lansana Fadika.
