Blackout hits Parliament, disrupting chaotic debate on constitutional amendments and proposed Public Elactions Bill 2022

There was more drama at the Sierra Leone Parliament yesterday as the chaotic  debate on constitutional amendments and the proposed Public Elections Bill 2022, which has torn the nation apart, was disrupted by an electricity blackout.

The power outage came after Parliament were completing some admentments on portions of the 1991 Constitution and were about to proceed to the more contentiuos debate on the Public Elections Bill, which has many provisions that are being bitterly disputed by the opposition.  These include proportional Representation , which will bring an end to democracy in Sierra Leone.

Parliamentarians moved out of the dark chamber making derisive chants : “Maaada Bio, Maada Bio ayyyyyy. Maada Bio, Maada Bio ooooooooo”.

To demonstrate how much Sierra Leone has become divided under the reign of President Bio, the ruling SLPP and opposition APC  supporters accused each other’s party of causing the blackout. SLPP  supporters said it was a sabotage by the opposition while the APC  accused the SLPP of deliberately causing the blackout because they have smelled the rat that they do not have the two-thirds majority required to pass the Public Elections Bill.
