Freetown was tense on Thursday and Friday as Sierra Leone Police and okada bike riders were involved in bloody run battles on the streets of the capital. One bike rider was killed and some others were injured.

The riots started when the Police seized the bikes of the motor bike transporters who ply the Central Business District ( CBD ) . The whole fracas actually started on Wednesday April 21 when the combined forces of the Sierra Leone Road Safety Authority ( SLRSA) and the Traffic Division of the Sierra Leone Police, led by Mr. James Bio, the brother of President Maada Bio , who is SLRSA Deputy Executive Director and the Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety, Assistant Inspector General of Police, Kaprie Saidu Kamara, cracked down on the bike riders by seizing their bikes in an attempt to decongest the central Freetown business district .

Hundreds of bike riders went berserk on Thursday in Freetown to force the Police to return their bikes and change their decision . They attacked the headquarters of the SLRSA . This sparked the two-day running battles between the Police and the bike riders in the city.
